In a small bowl whisk together marinade ingredients; brown sugar, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, ground mustard, soy sauce, ginger, onion powder, seasoned salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic cloves.
If using fresh ground beef, form beef into four quarter pound patties. Try not to overwork meat. Press an indentation in the center of each patty with your fingers.
Place beef patties in a shallow dish and spoon the marinade onto each patty. Move patties around in the pan to make sure each patty is coated with the marinade.
Cover and place beef patties in the fridge. Turn patties over after a couple of hours and return to the fridge.
Preheat barbecue grill to medium heat, about 325°-350°.
Coat grill with vegetable oil and grill burgers for 7-9 minutes per side over medium heat.
Resist the urge to press down on the patties while they cook.
Top each patty with cheese and cook until cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes.
Toast buns on the grill as the beef patties cook.
Top toasted buns with a beef patty and serve with your favorite burger fixins.
