Preheat barbecue grill to 325°-350°.
In a small bowl, combine salt, sugar, pepper, paprika and garlic powder.
Remove gizzards from chicken cavity and discard.
Wash chicken under cold water and pat dry.
Rub the entire chicken with olive oil.
Sprinkle the spice mixture onto the bird. Use hands to rub spices onto the bird so that the entire bird is covered.
Open a can of beer and take a few sips.
Place opened can of beer in the center of the chicken roaster.
Slide chicken onto the roaster over the can of beer.
Place chicken on the barbecue and close lid.
Cook chicken over indirect heat for 1 hour 45 minutes or until juices run clear.
Remove chicken on the roaster from the barbecue. Let chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before removing from roaster and carving.
