Creating Winter Inspired Vignettes

I confess, I’m a serial rotator. I’m constantly moving things around my home, tinkering with this and fluffing that. After a couple of weeks living with the more minimal post Christmas decor in my home, I’m ready to start adding in some winter vignettes.

Not sure what a serial rotator is? Are you curious if you suffer from it like I do? You can read all about what it is here.

What about you? Are you ready for some inspiration to get your creative juices going? I have some simple ideas that I will be sharing today that will make your home feel so much more inviting and make winter a little more tolerable until the warmer days of spring arrive.

Christmas is all about over the top abundance for many of us but winter decor doesn’t have to be like that. Winter decor can be simple and beautiful and easy to create. No stress decor that will make the winter months not so cold and uninviting.

One of the easiest ways to brighten up your home is to create a few seasonal vignettes. Easy winter inspired vignettes that will add a designer touch to your decor and reflect the season.

A silver bowl filled with tiny pinecones, one of my favorite white pitchers and a pedestal cake plate grouped together on my kitchen island were all that was needed to create this simple winter inspired kitchen vignette.

This simple trio of items grouped together in my kitchen adds a little pizazz with no effort what so ever.

Grouping a few items together will instantly make them more interesting than having them sprinkled randomly around the room. You don’t need to fill every horizontal surface in your home, just create one vignette in a prominent location in each room for some instant designer touches.

Grouping a plant, a candle and this vintage phone together is much more interesting than having the same items scattered randomly around the room.

Mix it up. Group together something polished and refined with something rough and rustic. The unexpected combination of items will make it more interesting to the eye.

A wooden bowl filled with pinecones next to shimmery candle sticks is an unexpected combination.

Focus on a tight color pallet when creating winter vignettes. It will make your vignettes look more pulled together and cohesive.

Adding a bit of greenery is always a nice touch when you are creating a vignette.

A simple vignette in your kitchen could be as easy as setting out a bowl of fresh fruit with your favorite cutting boards behind it.

A white bowl filled with lemons adds such a lovely pop of color.

A white pitcher filled with fresh flowers is always a lovely addition to a vignette anywhere in your home.

Fresh flowers are a lovely addition to a vignette no matter what time of year.

Adding just a single large item can also be a dramatic accent. Just make sure to add a substantial sized item and not a bunch of small items. Too many small items can start to look like clutter.

Use a judicious hand when adding accents. Either cluster together a grouping of three items so that it reads as one item or go with one large bold item as an accent.

A large urn filled with pinecones on the fireplace hearth adds a simple seasonal touch.

It really is easy to add seasonal winter inspired touches to your home.

Clip branches from bushes or trees from your garden and display them in your home.

Branches make a simple, dramatic, nature inspired accent.

Think outside the box and use practical items as decor. A glass cylinder filled with clothes pins, dryer balls in a bowl are all that’s needed to create a simple vignette for the laundry room.

A practical and useful laundry room vignette.

Yes it’s fun to shop for decorative items for your home but there really isn’t a need to do so unless you want to. Instead of buying more tchotchkes that will surely end up as clutter, use your imagination to create simple vignettes throughout your home using items you already have on hand.

Greenery is always a great way to add some life to your interiors.

I’m challenging you today to resist the urge to go and purchase new seasonal winter inspired items for your home. The only exception being fresh flowers or fresh fruit. Instead, “shop” your house and use what you already have. Use your imagination to guide you in creating useful, practical and beautiful vignettes throughout your home.

Unleash the serial rotator inside you! Please share what you use to create vignettes throughout your home! I’m always looking for inspiration. Have fun with this and if you put something together that just isn’t working for you, it’s so easy to just move items around until you love what you have created.
