Day 3 – Countdown To Spring

Change out your front door mat.

The often overlooked front door mat. All winter long it kept the worst of the mud and dirt from being tracked into your house. If yours is anything like ours, it’s looking pretty tired and high time to change it out for a new one.

A trip to my local hardware store, and I was pleasantly surprised by all the choices. It used to be that your only option was a black rubber mat with “Welcome” written in white.

Now there are so many lovely options to choose from and they are so affordable. Most were under $20! You can choose from pretty patterned outdoor rugs, rubber mats with intricate scrollwork, and basic bristle mats that are great for scrubbing the bottoms of dirty shoes.

Here in northern California where I live, we are lucky that we don’t have snow to contend with, just lots of rain for a couple of months in the winter. The lighter weight patterned out door rugs would be great for our mild climate and look quite lovely!

Even if you live in an area that receives a lot of snow you can easily use a lighter weight door mat once the snow has melted. Save the heavy duty mats for winter when you need them to catch the mud and dirt before anyone comes into the house.

I’m loving my new door mat! Simple and classic. It really does freshen up the front entrance to the house! Such a little change made such a big impact to welcome spring!
