Greek Garlic Chicken

There’s a small hole in the wall Greek restaurant here in town that serves up the most amazing Garlic Chicken. It’s one of my favorite places to have dinner. The chicken is cooked to perfection and it’s served with the most amazing garlic sauce I’ve ever had. I’ve been trying to weasel the recipe out of the owner for years with little success. This grilled chicken dish with a creamy garlic sauce for dipping, because dipping makes everything taste better, right? Is just as good as what they serve up at the restaurant and takes just minutes to whip up using just a handful of basic ingredients. I typically make it with chicken breasts because that’s what I usually have on hand. This time I grabbed thighs out of the freezer by mistake, and we loved them even more!

How To Make Greek Garlic Chicken With A Creamy Garlic Dipping Sauce:

Make the Garlic Sauce:

Place yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a bowl. Whisk sauce together. Cover and place in the refrigerator.

For the Chicken:

Slice each chicken piece in half horizontally. Using a fork, prick each piece numerous times. Place chicken in a large ziplock baggie.

Add olive oil, lemon juice, crushed garlic, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and paprika to the baggie.

Seal bag squeezing out excess air.

Massage chicken to ensure the marinade coats each piece of chicken in the bag.

Place chicken in the refrigerator to marinate for 8 hours or overnight.

Heat grill over medium high heat.

Use a stovetop grill like this one or fire up the BBQ grill.

I love this Korean style stovetop grill. I kept it in our camper and used it primarily when we went camping but when I have a small amount of food to cook up this stovetop grill makes it quick and easy without having to fire up the big barbecue outside. It has a reservoir that holds water so it prevents the meats you’re grilling from drying out. Such a clever design and useful invention.

Grill chicken for 4-5 minutes on the first side. Flip chicken over and grill on the second side until cooked through and juices run clear.

Serve grilled garlic chicken with a side of the garlic dipping sauce.

Round out the meal with a side of this easy to make Garlic Rice Pilaf. It pairs beautifully with the grilled garlic chicken and it’s oh so easy to make too.

Considering how few ingredients it takes to make this Greek Garlic Chicken it’s surprisingly flavorful. The easy to make creamy garlic sauce makes it even better. My kids love dipping their food into sauces and this one, made with Greek yogurt, makes it both flavorful and healthy. I have to confess, this has become one of my favorite chicken dishes. I love how easy it is to make and it’s absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Plus I can feel good about feeding this healthy meal to my family. Definitely a winner-winner chicken dinner.

Left-over Make-over: Cut up leftover chicken and use it on a homemade Caesar Salad like this one for a great tasting light summertime meal.
