How To Make A Rustic Pinecone Garland

The holidays are fast approaching. It’s almost time to pull out the holiday bins and start decorating for the holidays. Instead of using the same decorations every year, how about adding in a few new items?

Let’s get real for a minute, can we? Not all of us can afford to totally overhaul our holiday decor like we see many bloggers doing. Pinterest is filled with beautiful images and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all the beautiful holiday decor options. Wouldn’t it be awesome to change up your holiday theme every year? As much as I would love to do it, you may be like me and have to work within a budget.

Working with a budget doesn’t mean you can’t update your holiday decor. Far from it! You just have to get creative!!! And it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg either. Why if I told you that you can make this beautiful pinecone garland for just a few pennies?

You probably have everything you need on hand to make this pinecone garland right now. If not you could. either make a trip to a park near you to collect some pinecones or a trip to your favorite craft store to purchase a few pinecones. Some scented pinecones would be lovely for the holidays and you can find them everywhere this time of the year.

What about showcasing bleached pinecones on this garland? Learn how you can easily make bleached pinecones with this easy DIY.

Supplies:

  • Pinecones
  • Jute twine
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks

Begin by attaching a length of twine to each pinecone. You can either tie the jute onto the end of each pinecone or attach the jute twine with a dab of hot glue.

I elected to secure the twine to eat pinecone with hot glue.

Cut a length of twine to serve as the base of your garland. I wanted to hang my garland in my kitchen window above the sink so I measured out enough twine to fit, with extra for good measure.

Fold string in half and tie a knot at the center point. This is helpful in spacing the pinecones when you are attaching them to the twine. I found it very helpful tying the twine onto the backs of two chairs while I assembled the garland.

The knot marks the center point.

Attach pinecones to the length of twine. Try to space them as evenly as you can as you tie them onto the twine base.

What’s nice about attaching each pinecone individually using a length of twine for each pinecone is that you can easily slide them along the length of twine to adjust them. Adjust them until they look evenly spaced along the entire length of the garland.

I alternated regular pinecones with bleached pinecones on this garland.

You can trim off excess twine after attaching them to the garland. I kind of like the rustic look of leaving the excess lengths of twine, so I did not trim them off, but you decide what you prefer.

I’m going to enjoy gazing out my kitchen window and enjoying this pinecone garland all through the holiday season! It was so easy to make and adds such a nice rustic touch to my holiday decor without costing me anything! An easy to make DIY, inexpensive, beautiful, natural holiday accent that adds loads of texture to my decor…that’s a win-win-win in my book!
