Is Your Kitchen Ready for Summer?

I spend a lot of time in my kitchen and the countertops are prime real estate so I don’t want to add too much, no one wants a cluttered kitchen.  A kitchen needs to be functional and beautiful all at the same time with the littlest fuss possible.

The first order of business is to clear off those countertops and only leave out those items that you use on a daily basis. Everything else should be stored away. Create functional vignettes using items that are both functional and beautiful to look at.  A simple vignette with flowers and candles on my kitchen island and colorful coordinating dish towels add both a pop of color and a carefree, relaxed, summertime vibe, with almost no fuss.

A useful and beautiful kitchen vignette.

Step up your game and try your hand at growing some herbs in the kitchen window, or pick up a basil plant from Trader Joe’s the next time you are there and pop it into a decorative container for a quick and easy way to bring the outdoors into your kitchen. Both beautiful and useful.

Use cutting boards to corral vignettes in your kitchen. The natural, earthy, warm feel wood provides will work with any décor style you have, from farmhouse to industrial; boho and beachy to modern and contemporary; wood transcends all styles.

Use a food safe white mineral oil that contains no added chemicals to condition your cutting boards and keep them looking their best.

Display them leaning up against your kitchen backsplash when not in use so you can enjoy the varied tones and grains in the wood. Cutting boards work especially well in your kitchen, since they are both beautiful and useful. They make sense in the kitchen, not contrived.

The varied tones and grains in wood add a natural warmth
and earthiness to a kitchen that will never go out of style.

Updating your kitchen for summer is as easy as adding some brightly colored fresh flowers and coordinating dish towels. If you have the space, set out a bowl of fresh fruit for a beautiful accent that you can eat. Decor that is both beautiful and delicious. 🙂

Don’t ignore this room in your home. It’s the one room that you probably spend the majority of your waking hours, so take a few minutes to bring some summer cheer to your kitchen.

You will smile when you are greeted by a pitcher of brightly colored fresh flowers every time you walk into your kitchen. It will make the time you spend cooking so much more enjoyable.
