I was at a party recently when my dear friend Cindy arrived with a tray piled high with these delectable treats. I never think to make them until I see them and then I remind myself that I need to. It’s the same with Deviled Eggs. I adore them and when they show up at a party I’m always so very, very happy that someone thought to bring them. These Rice Krispy Treats are the same, I love them, but rarely think to make them. I’m kinda baffled by it actually. They’re one of the easiest ever desserts to make, they come together in just a few quick minutes on the stovetop. No baking in the oven required. After that party, I decided it was high time to remedy the Rice Krispy drought we’ve experienced at home and whip up a batch for my boys.

How To Make The Best Tasting, Iconic Rice Krispy Treats:
Can I share a little secret? The addition of a secret ingredient boosts the flavor of the Rice Krispy Treats so that they’re even more delectable, and it’s an ingredient that you probably have in your cupboard right now. Keep reading to find out what it is.

Gather together and measure out all the ingredients before you begin. Don’t worry, It’s only four ingredients. Trust me. You got this. Spray a 13×9 inch dish with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
Melt 3 tablespoons butter in a large pot over medium low heat.

Once the butter is melted add the marshmallows to the pot.

Stir until marshmallows are melted, stirring constantly, about 3-4 minutes.

Low and slow produces the best results.

Once the marshmallows are completely melted, it’s time to add the secret ingredient. Adding just a teaspoon of vanilla extract adds a wonderful boost of flavor that enhances the vanilla goodness in each bite. Don’t leave it out, it makes a big difference in the flavor.

Add one teaspoon of vanilla extract and stir to combine with the melted marshmallows.

Add rice Krispy cereal to the pot.

Turn off heat and stir to combine everything. Stir until all the rice cereal is coated with the marshmallow mixture.

Spoon the mixture into the greased 13×9 inch dish.

Use a piece of parchment paper to spread the cereal mixture out in the dish in an even layer.

Allow treats to cool for one hour.

Cut into 24 squares to serve.

Store treats in an air tight container.

Ditch the overpriced premade Rice Krispy Treats! They’re loaded with unpronounceable chemical additives and preservatives. Making them at home is quick and easy, and it’s much more economical. Plus it’s a healthier alternative. Wait, you might be asking how dessert can be healthy? Well there’s no chemical additives in there when you make them yourself, and that is always a better option! Plus the addition of the vanilla gives them a boost of flavor! So go and gather together all four of the ingredients and whip up a batch for the kiddos. They’re the perfect after school sweet treat, and they’re going to love them! You will too!!!
