Inspiration for Adding Simple Summer Touches to Your Home

Today’s post is all about adding simple summer touches to your home. As much as I love decorating my home, I would much rather be outside enjoying the warm summer days than stuck inside the house. There will be plenty of time to spend indoors when the weather turns cold!

There’s a big, beautiful world out there waiting to be explored.

Hopefully today’s post provides you with inspiration for how you can easily add a little summer vibe to your home. Simple easy things you can do in just a few minutes. Nothing complicated or time consuming, I promise!

Creating simple vignettes in strategic locations throughout your home allows you to easily add seasonal touches to reflect what’s going on out side.

A trio of white pitchers adds a sculptural simple elegance to your decor.

Start by looking for ways to bring the outdoors inside. This garden sculpture, with its weathered finish from being outside in my garden all year long adds some textural interest to a mantle.

Instead of small seashells scattered everywhere, which can easily look like clutter, make a bigger decor impact by displaying just one large shell for more visual punch.

Adding greenery that reflects what is outside is another lovely way to add a simple summer touch.

There is no need to go out and buy a lot of kitschy knick-knacks. Can you say dust collectors? Pass on that!!! Instead, set out a bowl of fruit on your kitchen counter for an instant pop of color. Turning useful items into beautiful decor is a wonderful thing!

Just grab a cutting board when you need to slice up one of those lemons.

Cutting boards make a beautiful and useful backdrop to a bowl filled with fruit. Not only do the cutting boards hide unattractive outlets, using them as decor keeps them within easy reach and right where you need them the most when cooking.

Something as simple as a glass jar filled with trail mix can be used as decor. When creating vignettes vary the height of items, use the rule of three, and a keep a tight color pallet. Keeping these elements in mind makes it super easy to create beautiful vignettes.

Use everyday items to create simple, beautiful vignettes.

If you are at a loss for what to display, you can’t go wrong with setting out a colorful bowl of fruit in your kitchen.

Add plants to your decor for an instant summer vibe. Plants will add an instant organic touch of summer to your interior spaces.

Pothos are easy to grow.

Even a pitcher filled with a few cuttings adds a lovely organic touch to your spaces.

The next time you are at the grocery store, pick up an inexpensive bouquet of fresh flowers. Pop them in a white pitcher or your favorite vase for an instant lovely summer touch.

Fresh flowers are always a beautiful addition to your decor.

You will never go wrong with a display of brightly colored flowers. Pair it with a bowl of fruit in a complimentary color for a simple, colorful, and lovely display.

A colorful vignette like this one will brighten any kitchen.

Add some sparkle with candles. I love the juxtaposition of the shimmer from these crystal candlesticks against the rustic texture of this burlap table runner on my wood farmhouse dining room table.

Mixing rustic with refined.

These chunky mercury glass candlesticks really pop against the rough texture of the burlap runner. Unexpected combinations like this make interesting vignettes without a lot of fuss.

A simple but elegant vignette.

Care to join me for a little wine and cheese? Here is another example of mixing shimmery and refined finishes with rough and rustic finishes to create a visually pleasing display. A perfect example of effectively mixing rustic elements, like wood and burlap, and pairing it with refined elements, like crystal and silver.

This vignette looks good enough to eat!

Add texture whenever you can. Instead of purchasing kitschy, knick-knacks use natural elements in your decor to create pleasing displays that look natural and not contrived. Pinecones, burlap runners, and burlap covered books are just a few easy ways to add texture to your decor. Keep it light for summer.

Pinecones and nubby burlap paired with a shimmery silver tray, so lovely.

I love the contrast of this trio of pinecones on a wooden board paired with a tarnished silver pitcher.

This touch of nature looks carefree and natural, not contrived or kitschy.

Sometimes adding just one large textural item to your decor makes a lovely dramatic statement, like this wooden dough bowl filled with pinecones.

Sometimes less is more. A simple, understated, elegant centerpiece.

I hope I inspired you to add some simple summer touches to your home today. It doesn’t have to be time-consuming or difficult to do. If you are still feeling intimidated or unsure about creating beautiful vignettes for your home, you can learn the basic principles for creating them below.

Remember that less is usually more. Create vignettes in strategic locations throughout your home. Use restraint; not every horizontal surface in your home needs to display a vignette. Leave some areas of your home without any ornamentation; it gives the eye a place to rest.

Keep it simple. Summer comes with a relaxed, carefree vibe. Try to capture that feeling in your decor with simple, easy, breezy touches.

Nothing too heavy or ornate, let mother nature be your guide with a few strategically placed organic touches. Bring what is going on outside into your home.
