The 3 Phases of Fall

Transitioning from late summer into autumn doesn’t have to be difficult, nor does it need to take a lot of time and energy on your part. It’s actually much easier to gradually transition from one season into the next instead of changing everything out all at once.

Autumn has 3 distinct phases.

Early fall. The hillsides are covered in dry grasses, the acorns are just beginning to fall, and leaves are beginning to drop from the tree branches. Sunflowers abound, apples are ripe for the picking and the wine harvest is in full swing.

It still feels like summer but the first telltale signs of autumn are beginning to signal that summer is slowly coming to an end.

Halloween! If you love this holiday and you have young kids, then pull out all the pumpkins, Jack-o-lanterns, bats, witches, all things creepy and scary to adorn the house.

If you don’t have the time or the energy to go full on haunted house; decorating for Halloween can be as easy as carving a few Jack-o-lanterns to set out on your front porch to greet Trick or Treaters.

Thanksgiving harvest. This is the time of year when autumn’s fabulousness is on full glorious display! It’s all about the harvest, abundance, and Thanksgiving. It’s when fall is in it’s most colorful gloriousness. Everything pumpkin spice, tree branches adorned in bright crimson, leaves crunching underfoot, cool crisp evenings, roaring fires, hot apple cider, warm sweaters, mittens and scarves.

As summer winds down where do you start with transitioning into the first phase of fall? Making small changes to your decor is the easiest way to go. Begin small by changing out the seasonal decor items in your vignettes. It’s time to start putting away the seashells and summery beach themed items and bringing out items that are a reflection of what is going on outside.

Don’t make it complicated, transitioning to fall is as easy as incorporating a small bowl of acorns, or a few pinecones into a vignette.

Add a bouquet of sunflowers in a pretty pitcher on your dining room table. Set out a bowl of fresh apples on your kitchen counter.

Change out the pillows on your sofa and add a fall colored throw to snuggle under as the days get shorter and the evenings get cooler. Not only is this an easy update, it is inexpensive and affordable. It’s one of the quickest, easiest ways to update the entire look of the room in just a few minutes, without breaking the bank.

Slowly adding a few simple changes to your decor will add the seasonal touches that are a reflection of the outdoors. Easing into fall gradually over time instead of all at once is not only easier to do but just feels right. As the weather starts changing so will your home as you slowly incorporate seasonal items throughout your home.

Don’t let the changing season be a cause for added stress. There is enough stress preparing for the holidays. Embrace autumn’s arrival and relax into the first phase of the new season.
