It never ceases to amaze me how a can of spray paint can transform a dated ugly item into something beautiful. If you can develop an eye that can see past the rusty, crusty finish of an item and focus on the form and shape of an item, you can find unique items that can be transformed into something beautiful for just pennies.
I spied a lantern in my garden not to long ago. It had survived several of my declutter sessions over the years. I kept thinking that I would make something out of it but instead it sat, mostly forgotten, in the weather getting rustier and crustier by the year.
I finally got some inspiration from Pinterest. A young woman tucked lanterns into her Christmas tree using them as oversized Christmas tree ornaments. What a brilliant idea, and they looked fabulous used in that way! I loved the lantern idea for Christmas and decided to incorporate it into my theme this year.
Time to brush off the worst of the rust and crust on the old lantern I had in my garden. I also had a couple smaller lanterns tucked away in my craft stash that I pulled out of hiding.
I also came across these miniature lanterns at the Dollar Tree. I scooped up all the lanterns they had. Not much to look at but after a coat of paint and the addition of a jute and gingham red ribbon they look super cute!
Look how they turned out after a couple of coats of fire engine red spray paint!
While I was at home improvement store I also picked up a can of matte black spray paint and a can of orange spray paint.
This old bundt pan received a new life with a coat of orange paint.
A coat of paint with the addition of assorted fall foliage and some raffia turned this old bundt pan into a unique Thanksgiving wreath. I hung it on the front door for Thanksgiving to greet our guests.
Even this old metal chair that was relegated to the shed out back has a new life with just a coat of black paint!
I encourage you to take a look around, what do you have that you can breath new life into with a couple coats of spray paint? I would love to see what you decide to transform!
Keep calm, and paint on!
