Grandma Marie's Lemonade

This lemonade is totally refreshing, tart, but not too tart, sweet, but not to sweet. It's the perfect libation on a hot summer day!

- 1¼ cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups lemon juice
- 7 cups cold water
- lemon slices, for garnish
In a small saucepan, combine the sugar with 1 cup water. Bring mixture to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved.
Remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature, about an hour.
Juice enough lemons to make 2 cups of lemon juice.
Pour the lemon juice through a strainer to remove seeds and excess pulp.
In a large pitcher, combine strained lemon juice, cooled simple syrup and 7 cups cold water. Stir to combine.
Refrigerate until chilled.
Serve chilled over ice.
Garnish with lemon slices if desired.
