Grandma Marie’s Recipe For The Best Homemade Lemonade

When the temps start to creep up into the triple digits, a tall glass of icy cold lemonade really hits the spot. My dear mother in law has loads of lemon trees and she’s famous for her homemade lemonade; it’s not too tart and it’s not too sweet…it’s just right! It’s the perfect libation for all your 4th of July celebrations!!! I mean…who doesn’t love a refreshing glass of lemonade?

The perfect refreshing libation to serve at your 4th of July celebration!

Everyone should have a good recipe for homemade lemonade in their arsenal. Be sure to save this recipe for the next time you are gifted with a bag of lemons. Yes this recipe has sugar in it, but it’s paired with all the healthy benefits from the freshly squeezed lemon juice. There’s a whole lotta vitamin C in that juice and a whole lotta healthy benefits from it too.

So when it’s time for a sweet treat, I personally feel better serving this to my family than letting them drink soda pop that’s filled with even more sugar plus a bunch of chemical additives that ain’t good for anybody! You know exactly what’s in this lemonade; just 3 ingredients, fresh lemon juice, sugar and water…that’s it! Plus loads of healthy vitamin C.

I love how easy this is to make! When you see how incredibly simple it is to whip up a pitcher from scratch, you will be making it all summer long.

The secret to a really good lemonade is to make a simple syrup to use as the sweetener. Make the simple syrup by combining the sugar with 1 cup water in a sauce pan.

Turn the heat to medium high and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Water will go from an opaque cloudy white to a clear liquid when the sugar has completely dissolved.

Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool down to room temperature; about an hour or so.

Juice enough lemons to make 2 cups of lemon juice. Pour the lemon juice through a strainer to remove seeds and excess pulp.

In a large pitcher, combine lemon juice, cooled syrup and 7 cups of water. Stir to combine.

Play around with the amount of sugar and lemon juice until you get it just the way you like it. Do you like it on the sweeter side? Add a couple table spoons more sugar. Maybe you like it more tart? Add a little more lemon juice. Everyone’s taste is a little different but these ratios are a great place to start and makes one big pitcher of lemonade.

Refrigerate and serve chilled over ice.

So refreshing!

Garnish with lemon slices if desired.
