Brie is a mild flavored, soft creamy cow’s-milk cheese named after Brie, the French region from where it originated. It’s pale in color under a rind of white mold. The rind is flavorful and typically eaten. It is best served at room temperature to allow its flavor to “bloom”. Baking it enhances its flavor and topping it with a fig jam, chopped nuts, fresh herbs, and a drizzle of honey creates a delectable appetizer that’s always a crowd pleaser. Serve hot out of the oven with slices of baguette bread, crackers or fresh veggies and pair with a glass of wine for a truly sophisticated appetizer that everyone will enjoy.

How To Make A Hot Baked Brie:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Use an oven safe dish that’s large enough to hold a wheel of cheese like this brie baker. No need to go out and buy a brie baker, any oven safe dish large enough to hold a wheel of brie will work for this appetizer.

Place wheel of brie cheese in the freezer for 15-20 minutes. This makes it easier to cut off the rind.

While the cheese is chilling in the freezer, chop the pecans and the fresh rosemary.

Remove cheese from the freezer and remove the wrapper from the wheel of cheese. Use a sharp knife to cut off the top of the rind.

Place the wheel of cheese in an oven safe dish, cut side up.

Spread fig jam over wheel of cheese in an even layer.

Bake, uncovered, for 15 minutes in preheated oven.
Remove cheese from oven and top with a layer of the chopped pecans.

Return cheese to the oven and bake, uncovered, for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is hot and melted.
Remove hot cheese from the oven and sprinkle the top with freshly chopped rosemary and a generous drizzle with honey. Serve tis appetizer hot with baguette bread slices or crackers for scooping.

Serve with a light bodied red wine with subtle fruit flavors, such as a Pinot Noir. If you prefer white wine, Brie pairs beautifully with a chilled Chardonnay. It’s also delicious served with a sparkling wine like Prosecco. The bubbles in sparkling wine help cleanse the palate between bites of the rich cheese, and the wine’s acidity contrasts beautifully with the mild and creamy flavor profile of the brie cheese.
This delicious appetizer is one of my all time favorites! It takes just minutes to prepare, it makes a beautiful presentation, it’s creamy and delicious, and it has an air of sophistication associated with it. You can never go wrong when you serve this the next time you’re entertaining.
