Start by chopping the dill pickles. You want a nice fine mince.

Add mayonnaise, minced dill pickles, chopped dill, onion powder and lemon juice to a mixing bowl.

I used to have to make a trip to the market anytime a recipe called for dill. It’s not an herb I typically keep on hand. When you purchase it fresh you usually get a big bunch of it even though you only need a little bit for a recipe, and it can be quite pricy. I’ve thrown out a lot of past-its-prime, unused dill over the years. I discovered this freeze dried version that packs a good punch of dill flavor to my recipes and can be substituted for fresh. It keeps for a long time, so there’s no waste. And no more last minute trips to the market when a recipe calls for dill.

Stir to combine all the ingredients.

Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour for the flavors to combine.

This tartar sauce is one of the easiest to make condiments. Not only does it come together lickety-quick, but it tastes phenomenal! No unpronounceable chemical additives or preservatives here. Eating healthier means not only eating more fish, but the condiments and sauces we top our foods with should be healthier as well, right? This tasty Tartar Sauce is proof that healthier options can be both better for you and taste delicious! Give it a try, you will love it!

  1. I didn’t know that there was freeze-dried dill! I had the same issue…buy a bunch of dill for a teaspoon or tablespoon for a recipe. I tried dehydrating, but with less-than-desirable results. Thank you for the suggestion!

    1. I tried growing it in my garden but it grows into a floppy mess that’s really not an attractive plant. The freeze dried is great.
