What is it about making a pie crust from scratch that is so intimidating? It’s actually not that difficult but for some reason many of us struggle to get it right. We get frustrated when we get less than stellar results so we resort to purchasing refrigerated pie crusts instead of making our own. What if I told you that you can make a delicious, flakey pie crust in just a few quick minutes. No rolling pin needed. No rolling out dough required. No need to use chilled butter either. Sound to good to be true? Keep reading to learn the easy technique I will be sharing with you today.
Jump to RecipeI kept coming across this super easy pie crust technique online and I finally decided to give it a try. It takes only 5 minutes of hands on time to make it and it turns out so very good. It uses ingredients we all have in our kitchens so no special trip to the store needed to pick up exotic ingredients, gotta love that!
Start by preheating your oven to 375℉.
Get out a 9-inch pie pan. Place flour, salt and sugar in the pie pan.
Give the dry ingredients a quick stir to combine them.
Add oil and 3 tablespoons of the milk.
Stir together until you have a crumbly mixture.
NOTE: Add another ½ tablespoon more milk if mixture seems too dry.
Once dough starts to come together use your hands to knead the dough into a ball.
Using your fingers begin pressing the dough out along the bottom of the pie pan and work the dough up the sides of the pan. Try to keep the dough an even thickness.
Use a fork to prick the pie crust several times.
Crust is now ready to bake.
Bake crust for 20 minutes until light golden brown. Remove pie crust from the oven and fill with your desired filling.
This pie crust works beautifully with both sweet pie fillings as well as savory fillings, like quiches. You can ditch the store bought pie crusts now that you know how to make your own pie crust from scratch. Love the ease of this recipe and no rolling pin! I have a similar crust recipe I use when I’m making quiche and I don’t pre-cook the crust. It still turns out flaky and delicious for quiche and saves a little time.
This technique has been a real game changer.
