Day 12 – Elevate the Everyday

Create a vignette.

I love pulling together a few seasonal items to create vignettes in my home. Every time I see it, it brings a smile to my face. It’s such an easy thing to pull together but the impact is huge and really elevates a room. It adds the finishing touches to a room.

If you need more inspiration or want additional ideas about how to create vignettes, you can read more about it here.

I set this tray on my stove when it’s not being used for cooking. I change out the vignette with fresh flowers and other seasonal items all year long.

Pick up a bunch of fresh flowers the next time you are at the grocery store. Place them in a pretty pitcher or your favorite vase. Set them on a tray, and add a candle for a charming simple display. Using fresh flowers as a starting point for a vignette is always a great place to start.

Adding varying heights and using an odd number of items seems
to work best and produces the most visually pleasing arrangements.

Once you get the hang of it you can create vignettes throughout your home. Pick a theme, keep it simple but don’t create one on every horizontal surface in your home. Limit them to only one per room. Remember, less is more. Too many will make your home look cluttered.

Keep these few things in mind when you are creating a vignette:

  • Start with a theme in mind.
  • Vary the height of the items.
  • Stick with a tight color pallet for a more cohesive, polished look.
  • Use items with different textures.
  • Use an odd number of items.
  • Use a tray, platter, board, basket or any sort of flat container to corral your vignette.

If you keep these items in mind, you can easily create beautiful vignettes all throughout your home in just a matter of minutes.

Use natural elements from your garden like these Rangpur limes and forsythia branches, to create seasonal vignettes that bring the natural beauty of the outdoors inside.

Vignettes are such an easy thing to create that will definitely elevate the everyday in your home. What will you create today?
