DAY 6 – COUNTDOWN TO SPRING

Force some branches into beautiful bloom.

One of the easiest ways to bring spring, up close and personal, is to bring it inside. Not only is today’s tip one of the easiest but it’s also free! All that is needed are a pair of gardening shears or sharp scissors and a vase or any pretty container you have on hand.

Late winter or early spring is the best time to venture out into your garden to cut some branches. Wait until you can see nice plump buds on the bare branches of your flowering shrubs.

Bringing cut branches into the warmth of your home will get them to bloom much earlier than out in your garden, so we can start to enjoy spring inside our homes so much sooner!

Any flowering shrub or tree branches will work. Forsythia, dogwood, flowering plum, crab apple, flowering pear, quince, cherry tree branches. They will all work, just use what you have readily available in your garden.

This Redbud tree will be bursting out in full bloom soon.

Use sharp shears and cut each branch on the diagonal. Trim off any buds at the bottom of the branches. You don’t want buds submerged in the water, they won’t hold up well under the water, so it’s best to trim them off the branches.

Tip: Change out the water in your container every couple days to extend the life of your cut branches so you will be able to enjoy your blossoms much longer.

Place your branches in a pretty vase or pitcher and add water. In a few days your branches will start to bloom and there is nothing prettier than fresh blossoms in your home!

In a few days these Forsythia branches will be covered in bright
yellow delicate blossoms for a fresh spring pop of color.

That’s it! Now all you need to do is sit back and enjoy watching your branches blossom! I told you this was the easiest tip for spring! Such a pretty, inexpensive way to bring spring into your home! Let me know if you give this a try and what branches you select to force. I would love to see how your branches bloom!

Be sure to check back again tomorrow for another tip to welcome spring.
