What do you get when you combine a grilled cheese sandwich with a burger? You get this delectable concoction! Instead of a soft bun you have the grilled, toasted bread to bite through into a meaty, cheesy, gooey, center that you are going to love! This sandwich/burger combines all your favorite flavors of a grilled cheese sandwich with a cheese burger into one delectable treat!
I got this idea from a Sonic Burger commercial. My mouth was watering as I watched the commercial. It looked like a delicious spin on a burger that I knew I had to try making. Since we don’t have a Sonic anywhere nearby I decided to figure out how I could recreate them at home. Not only do they taste phenomenal, they come together in about 15 to 20 minutes from start to finish! Gotta love that!!!
Divide ground beef into 6 equal sized portions and flatten into thin patties.
Season beef patties with salt and pepper.
Heat a large cast iron skillet or griddle over medium high heat.
Butter one side of each slice of bread and place a slice of cheese on the unbuttered side.
One the grill is hot, place beef patties on the grill and fry until cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Reduce heat to medium and place 3 slices of bread, buttered sides down on the grill.
Top each slice of bread with cheese and two cooked beef patties.
Top beef patties with sliced tomato and a slice of cheese.
Top with a slice of bread, butter side up.
When bread is toasted and golden brown and crisp on one side, use a spatula to flip the sandwich over.
Cook until bread is toasted and cheese is melted. Use spatula to press sandwich together as it cooks.
Serve with mustard, ketchup and sliced pickles if desired.
Oh my goodness these were so very, very good!!! Not only are they absolutely delicious they are insanely easy to make too!!! If you’ve tried these at Sonic, you will have to let me know if this version is as good as what you can get there!
