How To Make The Most Delectable Cinnamon French Toast

There’s a new breakfast place in town that opened a few weeks ago. My girlfriends and I have been there several times since they opened their doors. Our favorite on the menu, hands down, the Cinnamon French Toast. After my very first bite, I knew I had to figure out how I could recreate it at home! Sure it’s nice to go out for breakfast and have someone wait on you, there’s no dishes and no work to worry about, but at $16.99 for four slices of French Toast I knew I could figure out how to make it at home, and for a fraction of the cost. Let the French toast experimenting commence!

Over the years I’ve added cinnamon to the milk/egg mixture when I make French toast at home. But in order to recreate the delectable Cinnamon French Toast from the restaurant I needed to up the cinnamon factor by, oh I don’t know, a thousand times? A pinch of cinnamon in the milk/egg mixture wasn’t cutting it, not even close. The French toast at the restaurant has a cinnamony crust on it that literally melts in your mouth. After ordering it half a dozen times I finally figured out how they do it. Wanna know how? Keep reading to find out. Hint: it’s really simple!

Just a picture of it is making my mouth water!

Place eggs, milk, and vanilla in a large flat bottom bowl. Beat together until combined.

In another flat bottom bowl, combine cinnamon and sugar.

Add freshly grated nutmeg.

Stir to combine. Set aside.

Place a skillet over medium heat. Add a tablespoon of butter and allow it to melt.

Dip each slice of bread in the egg/milk mixture to coat both sides. Work quickly, avoid letting the slices of bread to sit in the egg mixture. Letting it sit will result in an eggy, custardy toast. Just dip the slices of bread quickly in the batter, just to coat the outsides.

Use thick sliced bread for the best results.

Fry in the skillet until golden brown. Flip and cook until golden brown on both sides.

Remove bread from the skillet and immediately place it in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Spoon the cinnamon sugar mixture onto the cooked bread slices, coating them generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture. The butter on the slices of bread from frying them will help the cinnamon sugar stick to them.

Serve with warm maple syrup and crisp bacon strips to round out the meal.

If you grew up eating cinnamon toast you’re going to love, love, love this Cinnamon French Toast. It has that same crunchy cinnamony, sugary crust that was created by the melted butter on your slice of toast. The hint of nutmeg gives it an extra shot of fantastic flavor. One bite and you will be devouring every last bite on your plate and you’ll probably want a second serving. It’s that good! It’s my new favorite breakfast and absolutely fantastic with a piping hot cup of coffee!
