While the rest of the country is socked in with snow, here in northern California we are getting a little sneak peek of spring. Just a tease. The forecast is for rain all next week. I have to confess that once Christmas is over, I’m ready for spring. I am so done with winter!
Today I want to share the elements of creating a fun little spring vignette that will bring a little bit of sunshine into the midst of a dreary winter day.
Creating a vignette is such a simple thing to do and if you keep just a couple things in mind you can create little vignettes all over your home that will bring the outdoors inside and brighten up any spot in your home.
Start with a theme in mind. I spied these red tulips at the grocery store today and they are the inspiration for this simple little vignette. The red is also a timely subtle nod to Valentine’s Day, without going over the top with hearts and other themed holiday decor.
The citrus trees in my garden are dripping with lemon’s and limes and I’ve been using them as decor all around my home the last few weeks. I love setting out a bowl of lemons or limes on the kitchen counter. So simple to do and it brings such a lovely pop of color to the kitchen. Brightening up your home doesn’t have to be hard!
One thing to keep in mind is to pull together items in odd numbers, and three seems to be that magic number. Alone each item is beautiful, in and of itself, but by grouping them together in a vignette, it creates a grouping that makes it more appealing to the eye.
Start with a fresh bouquet, of your favorite flowers. Pick a color that gives a nod to an upcoming holiday, or pick something that brings a smile to your face. Next pick a couple more items to add to your vignette. I chose a bowl of lemons set next to a glass of mineral water with a few slices of Rangpur lime.
Varying the height of the items you use in your vignette makes it more visually interesting to look at. Try to keep a tight color pallet, too many colors and too many small little items won’t look as good as a few larger items that are all in the same color pallet.
That’s it! Easy-peasy! It took me less that 5 minutes to trim the stems of the flowers, arrange them in a pitcher, set it on the table next to a bowl of lemons and then I poured myself a glass of mineral water and added a few slices of lime. And Voila! I had a vignette I could sit back and enjoy as I sipped my sparkling water!
I hope you give creating a vignette a try. It’s so easy to do, don’t let the fancy name scare you. Pull an odd number of items together, vary the heights, and keep a tight color pallet. Done and done!
Happy Spring! I would love to see the vignettes you create using these simple tips! Tell me what your inspiration piece was and how you used it in a vignette; I would love to see your beautiful and unique creation!
