Thanksgiving Left-Over Make-Over Ham & Cheese Bowties

Did you serve a ham along with the turkey at Thanksgiving like I did? Do you have a ton of leftover ham like I do? Are you tired of ham sandwiches and looking for something a little more interesting to use up the last of your leftover ham?

Well if you are a fan of Mac & Cheese you are going to love this recipe! It’s a cheesy casserole that your family is going to love. They will be scraping their plates clean and asking for seconds!

The cast of characters for this recipe. Nothing complicated.

So how do you make this delectable dish? Start by cooking a box of bowtie pasta. Get a large pot of salted water boiling on your stove top and cook pasta until al dente. You don’t want to overcook it, it will cook for an additional time in the oven.

Al dente describes pasta that is cooked to be firm to the bite.

While the pasta is cooking, it’s time to get started on the cheese sauce. Melt 1/4 cup of butter in a large saucepan.

Once the butter has melted add minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Whisk in flour, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Cook and stir until smooth.

Add a little milk at a time, stirring constantly. Stir until you have a smooth and creamy sauce.

Add the mustard and shredded cheddar cheese, reserving about a cup of the cheese.

Stir until the cheese is completely melted and you have a nice thick creamy cheese sauce.

When pasta is done cooking, drain and combine with the cheese sauce and diced ham. Stir well to combine.

Spread mixture out evenly into a 2 quart oven safe casserole dish.

Top with Parmesan cheese and reserved cheddar cheese.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until cheese is melted and casserole is hot and bubbly.
