An Easy To Make, Leftover-Makeover; French Dip Sandwiches

This quick and easy to make au jus sauce is so much better tasting than anything you can make with an envelope of powdered spices! It’s just as easy to make as the packaged stuff, plus it tastes so much better! So what are you waiting for? What makes a French Dip so stinking good? HELLO?!?!?! The au jus sauce!!!! Without it all you have is a Roast beef sandwich. Nothing wrong with a roast beef sandwich, but adding the dipping sauce elevates this sandwich to a whole new level of deliciousness!

Hands down, homemade beats the packages stuff!

Let’s start with the au jus and the beef. In a large sauce pan, the heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced onion and sauté until the onions are soft and translucent, about 4-5 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.

To the saucepan, add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, beef bullion and onion powder.

Stir to combine and increase heat. Bring the sauce to a boil. Simmer for 4-5 minutes.

In a small bowl, combine cornstarch and cold water to make a slurry. Add the slurry to the au jus sauce.

Simmer until sauce thickens slightly, about 2 minutes.

Taste and season with salt and pepper.

Add sliced roast beef to the sauce and simmer till beef is heated through. Cover pan and turn off heat.

Cut rolls in half, lengthwise. Spread with a generous layer of horseradish sauce if desired. Be sure to add the horsey sauce, it makes these sandwiches oh so flavorful!

Place sliced cheese on cut sides of the bread.

Set oven to broil and toast bread until cheese is melted and bubbly and lightly browned.

Add warm roast beef slices to cheesy bread. Serve with a side of au jus sauce for dipping.

One bite and you will know why the French Dip sandwich is one of the worlds most beloved sandwiches. Tender hot slices of beef, melty, gooey cheese, with a little zing from the horsey sauce all dipped into a flavorful, beefy au jus sauce…my mouth is watering just telling you about it. French Dip Sandwiches with Au Jus Sauce

A warm French Dip Sandwich with a side of au jus. It's easy to turn leftover roast beef into one of the worlds most loved sandwiches.

Ingredients
  

  • 1-1½ lbs roast beef, sliced
  • 4 French bread rolls
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese
  • 4 tbsp Horseradish sauce, optional

For the Au Jus Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
