Everyone loves moist banana bread. What if I told you that you can kick up the flavor of a basic banana bread recipe with the addition of a secret ingredient? Keep reading to find out how easy it is to take a basic recipe and kick it up about a 100 notches.
No fancy equipment needed to make this recipe, it comes together so easily you can stir it together by hand, no need to even get out the mixer for this one.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and generously grease a loaf pan.
Gather together the ingredients.
Mash together 3-4 very ripe bananas.
TIP: Using a pastry cutter makes short work of mashing the bananas.
Add melted butter, sugar, egg, vanilla, baking soda, salt and flour. Stir to combine all the ingredients.
Next stir in the chocolate and butterscotch chips.
Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 60 to 75 minutes.
Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center of the loaf. Loaf is done when toothpick comes out clean.
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream while still warm for an extra special treat!
Bananascotchy Chocolate Chip Bread
Ingredients
- 3-4 very ripe bananas
- ⅓ cup melted butter
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups flour
- 4 oz butterscotch chips
- 5 oz semi sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°. Generously grease a loaf pan, set aside.
- Peel ripe bananas and place in a mixing bowl. Using a pastry cutter, mash bananas until no large lumps remain.
- Add the remining ingredients to the mashed bananas. Stir until well combined.
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
- Bake for 1 hour and check to see if loaf is done by inserting a toothpick into the center. If the toothpick comes out clean, bread is done. If not bake loaf for up to an additonal 15 minutes if needed.
- Remove loaf from oven and allow to cool in the pan for 30 minutes.
- Turn out loaf and allow to cool completely.
- Delishious served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This is by far my favorite banana bread recipe! I urge you to give it a try the next time you have a few really ripe bananas to use up.

LOL, I had to check the recipe I posted because I know it calls for flour 😂. I thought maybe I forgot to include it in the ingredients list. I love this banana bread, the toffee chips give it a wonderful unexpected flavor. Hope you like it!
