The beauty and bounty of Mother Nature are showcased in this easy to make, nature inspired holiday wreath. This is not your typical holiday wreath. It’s a rather unique take on the holidays, using beautiful natural embellishments to create something that’s a little more uncommon and totally unique. It’s the perfect accent for the holidays, but because it doesn’t scream Christmas, you can leave it up long after the holidays are over to enjoy all throughout the long winter months.
Mother Nature provides most of the supplies you need to create this wreath.
Supplies:
- 30 inch pine wreath
- Magnolia leaves
- Dried citrus slices
- Cinnamon sticks
- Jute twine
- Small pinecones
- Assorted greenery picks
- Acorns
- Floral wire
- 2 inch wide wired ribbon
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
If you feel confident using a hot glue gun you can easily duplicate this nature inspired wreath in just one afternoon. There are no special skills required for this easy, fun to make holiday project.
Start by fluffing the wreath so that it’s nice and full. I used a large 30 inch artificial pine wreath for this project. I wanted to make a statement with this wreath so I opted for a larger sized pine wreath.
Plug in your hot glue gun and gather together the items you will be using to embellish your wreath.

Wrap jute twine around bundles of 3-4 cinnamon sticks, and tie with a knot.
Make a multi loop bow with 2 inch wide wired ribbon. I used the same woven ribbon I use as garland on my Christmas tree, but any natural colored ribbon will work beautifully for this wreath. If you would like a more holiday inspired look, pick ribbon with a more distinctive Christmas theme instead.
TIP: Repeat elements in your holiday decor for a polished, designer holiday look. It’s an easy way to create a cohesive, pulled together holiday look.
Clip magnolia leaves off stems. I used artificial ones but if you are lucky enough to have access to real ones use them instead. They have a beautiful soft rust colored backside that would look beautiful on this wreath.
Once you have all the elements ready to go, it’s time for the creativity to begin.
Begin by attaching the bow to your wreath using a length of floral wire.
Once you have attached the bow begin attaching the cinnamon stick bundles, leaves, acorns, and pine cones to the wreath with a bit of hot glue.
There is no right or wrong way to do this. Take your time and have fun with the creative process. Once you have attached all the items to your wreath, step back and take a look at it to identify any bare spots. Attach greenery to those bare spots to fill them in. Keep going until you are happy with the way it looks.
All that’s left to do is hang your wreath on the wall and enjoy it throughout the holiday season and beyond!
I love the unconventional look of this holiday wreath. Mother Nature is my favorite source for supplies, she always delivers! The next time you go for a walk, take a plastic bag with you so you can gather up a few acorns, pinecones and leaves. Grab a few twigs and leaves and you’ve got almost everything you need to create a beautiful nature inspired wreath like this one.
