Easy, Crispy Oven Fried Honey Garlic Chicken Wings

We love us some crispy chicken wings around here! But I hate the mess that’s created when I fry them on the stovetop. Such a greasy mess to clean up…ugh! What if I told you that you can get nice crispy results by frying them in the oven instead of the stovetop? Toss those crispy wings in an Asian inspired sauce for a yummy appetizer that’s sure to please everyone!!!

Don’t these look good? They are AMAZING!!!

Start by pouring enough vegetable oil into a 13 x 9 inch oven safe casserole dish so that it is about a ½ inch deep.

Place oil in the oven and set temperature to 375°F. Heat the oil for 30 minutes or until oil is hot.

Prepare sauce:

In a bowl combine soy sauce, ½ cup water, honey and brown sugar. Set aside.

In another small bowl combine combine ¼ cup water with 2 tablespoons cornstarch. Stir together and set aside.

In a large saucepan heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Add minced ginger and minced garlic to the pan and sauté until fragrant, about 30-45 seconds.

Add the soy sauce/honey/brown sugar mixture to the pan stirring constantly over medium heat.

Once it comes to a simmer add the cornstarch slurry stirring constantly to combine.

Watch the mixture carefully, it will bubble up as it cooks.

Don’t walk away from the pan as the sauce cooks.

Remove the pan from heat so it doesn’t boil over.

Stir in 1 teaspoon sesame oil and set aside.

Prepare & Fry Chicken Wings:

In a small bowl whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon soy sauce.

Place chicken wings in a large bowl and the pour egg mixture over the wings to coat them.

Place ⅓ cup corn starch, ½ cup flour and 1 teaspoon black pepper in a large plastic ziplock bag.

Add the egg/soy sauce coated wings to the ziplock bag and toss them to coat the wings in the flour/cornstarch mixture.

Carefully remove casserole dish with the hot oil from the oven.

Place chicken wings in the hot oil in a single layer.  Return casserole dish to the oven and bake wings for 30 minutes. Turn chicken wings over and cook for another 30 minutes.

When the wings are a nice crispy golden brown, remove them and drain on a paper towel lined plate.

Transfer the wings to a large bowl and toss them in the honey/garlic sauce to coat.

Top the wings with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.

Serve immediately with a big pile of napkins.

Got napkins?

I served these up on Super Bowl Sunday and there wasn’t a single wing left. They were a HUGE hit! Savory with a bit of sweetness; they are absolutely delicious!!! They are so flavorful you don’t even need a dipping sauce for them. I urge you to give these wings a try, you are going to LOVE them!!! They were by far the most favorite appetizer I served up for the Super Bowl.

Here are the recipes for all the appetizers I served up for the Super Bowl. All of my favorites! I started with this crowd pleaser Cheesy Breads.

While everyone was gobbling up the Cheesy Breads, I popped this game day favorite in the oven. You can’t host a super bowl party without serving up this Chili Con Queso, An Easy To Make Perennial Game Day Favorite.

Next came my personal favorite, this Easy To Make, Baked Cheese Stuffed Puff Pastry Appetizer. Melty cheese, puff pastry…makes my mouth water!!!
