Why is it that we save all our “nice” things for when company comes?
I confess that I rarely (ok, never) pull out the cloth napkins for a weeknight meal. I “save” the good dishes for the holidays. Christmas and Thanksgiving are the only times I pull out a tablecloth for the dining room table. The “good” towels are in the hall linen closet for when company comes. Meanwhile we are using the thin, frayed, unmatched towels that should have been relegated to the car washing stash a loooooong time ago.
Why do we do this to ourselves? Are you guilty of doing this? I know I am. Guilty as charged!
We are in the process of moving and as I pack up our belongings I keep coming across all the “nice” things that I have squirreled away over the years. During this process I have been asking myself, who exactly am I saving all these nice things for?
Why do we consider ourselves less than worthy to use our “nice” things? By not using them, aren’t we subconsciously telling ourselves that we are not as important as someone else. Don’t we deserve to use the nice towels? If it makes you smile drying off with a big white fluffy towel, isn’t it worth it to use the “nice” towels? If it makes us feel a little special, doesn’t it make sense to take a couple extra minutes to set a prettier table, even on a weeknight?
Well, I have decided it’s high time I started using my “nice” things because it makes me smile and it makes me feel just a little bit special. It makes me happy.
So I am challenging you to elevate your everyday! Check back every day for the next three weeks. I will be sharing simple ideas for how you can easily “elevate your everyday” and make yourself feel a little more special. Simple ideas that will make your day a little brighter, ideas to make you feel a little pampered and hopefully put a big smile on your face.
So are you going to join me? If you are happier it will spill over to everyone in your life. It’s the one thing we want for our children, we want them to be happy, so it’s about time we practice what we preach, and start doing a few small things that make us happy too! Remember that you are worth it!
