This triple garlic hummus, hands down, is better than any hummus you can purchase at the store. Not only is it a healthy, delicious snack, but it’s very easy to make at home and it will protect you from vampires for miles around. Be sure everyone in the family enjoys this hummus with you or you may be banished to the guest room with your glorious garlic breath, LOL!
This takes a little pre-planning since it takes some time to roast the garlic. It only takes about 5 minutes of effort to roast a head of garlic, since the oven does all the hard work for you.
Start by roasting a head of garlic:
Preheat oven to 400°.
Use a sharp knife to slice top ¼ off a head of garlic to expose the top of the individual cloves.
Place the head of garlic on a sheet of foil.
Drizzle with a teaspoon of olive oil.
Wrap garlic in the foil and bake at 400° for 40 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow garlic to come to room temperature.
Unwrap garlic and sqeeze garlic head together with your fingers. Cloves will slide out easily leaving the husk behind in your hand.
Now it’s time to make the dip:
Drain garbanzo beans and place them in the bowl of a food processor.
Add roasted garlic cloves.
Add freshly minced garlic.
Add tahini.
Add salt and garlic powder, for more garlicky goodness.
Add lemon juice.
Pulse in food processor until smooth. Continue to process and add hot water a couple tablespoons at a time to thin mixture to desired consistency.
Use a spatula to spread out hummus in a shallow dish and drizzle with olive oil to serve.
Serve with your favorite dippers; pita bread, pita chips, and assorted fresh veggies.
Have you ever tried jicama? It’s a firm and crunchy root vegetable that’s delicious and makes the perfect healthy vegetable dipper for this hummus.
Trim off the outer skin using a sharp knife and cut into sticks. It’s a tasty, healthy alternative to chips. Jicama has a neutral flavor profile that allows all the garlicky goodness of the dip to shine through and be the star.
Be sure to give this hummus recipe a try, you will love it! It’s an easy to make snack that’s good for you. That means you can enjoy it guilt free anytime you like!
BEWARE: You are going to stink like garlic for days, but it is so worth it!
