Grilled Chicken Gyros, A Quick & Easy Mediterranean Favorite

If you are a fan of Mediterranean flavors you are going to love this healthy, fresh, easy to prepare meal. Grilling it outside keeps your kitchen cool, making it the perfect flavor packed, healthy meal to satisfy your hunger on a hot summer day.

If pressed for time you can easily use a store bought Tzatziki sauce or these Gyros. But honestly, why buy a preservative laden Tzatziki sauce that is full of chemical additives when you can make your own Tantalizing Tzatziki Sauce in just a few short minutes. It’s so much healthier for you and your family and tastes a thousand times better than anything you can purchase at the market, guaranteed!!! This Tzatziki sauce is the most flavorful sauce that really takes these gyros over the top. I highly recommend you make it instead of using the store bought kind! Serve extra sauce as a dip with leftover Naan bread, pita chips or fresh veggie dippers. It will disappear in a flash!!!

It’s so easy to make this divinely delicious Tzatziki sauce in just a few short minutes.

If you have the time I highly recommend making this Easy To Make Garlic Naan Bread. You want to make sure you get all the ingredients in every single bite and this Naan Bread is the perfect vessel to hold together all the flavorful fresh filling ingredients in these Gyros! I like to roll them out as big as I can so they can hold more yummy filling!

The perfect flat bread to hold all those flavorful fillings!

There are delicious store bought varieties of flat breads and Pita bread is another wonderful option. If you have the time, make your own, but using a store bought brand will work in a pinch. Just be sure to heat them up by placing them in between a couple of paper towels and zapping them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to warm them up and make sure they are soft and pliable.

Making the flavorful chicken filling is the easiest part of making these gyros.

Start by combining Tzatziki sauce, olive oil, red wine vinegar, oregano and minced garlic in a bowl to make the marinade for the chicken.

Stir until well combined.

Place chicken breasts in a large ziplock baggie and add the marinade.

TIP: No need to thaw chicken breasts if marinating them in the fridge overnight. Just coat them with the marinade and all the flavor from the marinade will soak into those chicken breasts tenderizing them as they thaw.

Seal bag and allow chicken to marinate for at least 30 minutes but the chicken will pack more flavor if you allow it to marinate overnight.

When it’s time for dinner, preheat your grill and cook marinated chicken pieces for 6-8 minutes per side or until juices run clear and it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F. Keep a close eye on it so you don’t overcook it.

Remove chicken from the grill and allow it to rest for 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute. Ain’t nobody wants dried out, tough as shoe leather chicken!

While the chicken rests, chop up some fresh tomatoes and red onions.

I was lucky to have some sweet and juicy, vine ripened tomatoes from my little garden.

To serve, place a few grilled chicken strips onto a round of Naan bread.

This extra large piece of Naan bread is perfect for holding all the yummy fillings!

Top the chicken strips with a generous dollop of Tzatziki sauce, chopped tomato, diced red onion, and some Feta cheese.

I used Mozzarella because we were out of Feta cheese. It was still DELICIOUS!

There are only a handful of simple ingredients in these gyros but each one brings loads of flavor to the party. When you put it all together you get one of the most, fresh and flavorful meals you will ever eat! Not only is it delicious but it’s good for you too!!! Easy to make, flavorful and healthy, that’s pretty darn close to a perfect summer meal if you ask me.
