How To Make The Classic Bisquick Sausage Meatballs Appetizer

This classic appetizer is always one of the first to disappear when served at a get together. The spicy sausage gives them just a tiny hint of heat adding a little complexity to the flavor profile that’s quite delightful. If you are spicy adverse you could most certainly use a mild breakfast sausage instead and they will still be delicious. Just be warned, once you try one, you will be hard pressed to stop shoveling them into your mouth. The next time you are asked to bring an appetizer to a party, bring these easy to make, tasty meatballs. You won’t be bringing home any left overs at the end of the evening…guaranteed!

Preheat oven to 350ā„‰.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil. If using foil, coat it with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside while you make the meatballs.

Be sure to spray with non-stick spray to prevent meatballs from sticking.

Gather together ingredients.

NOTE:  If you live in an area where you can’t get your hands on a box of Bisquick, you can easily make your own for this recipe in just a few minutes.  Combine 2 cups flour with, 3 teaspoons baking powder, Ā½ teaspoon salt, with 2 tablespoons cold butter.  Mix together with your fingers, working the butter into the dry ingredients using your fingers.  Mixture will be rather dry and crumbly.

Place sausage, cheddar cheese, Bisquick, milk and freshly chopped herbs (if using them) in the bowl of a stand mixer using the paddle attachment.

Good To Know: These are delicious even without the addition of fresh herbs, but be sure to add the milk to the mixture. The first time I made them I forgot to add the milk to the mixture. They were still very tasty but they were a tad dry.

A stand mixer makes quick work of combining all the ingredients together. If you don’t have a stand mixer you can stir together all the ingredients using a wooden spoon.

My KitchenAid stand mixer has been a real workhorse in my kitchen for over 40 years.

Blend ingredients together on low speed until everything is combined.

Good To Know: Mixture will be quite crumbly but it will hold together when pressed together with your hands to form into meatballs.

Use a large bowl to hold all the ingredients.

Using a cookie scoop form mixture into evenly sized balls, gently pressing mixture together with your hands to form the mixture into evenly sized meatballs.

Place meatballs on a cookie sheet about Ā½ an inch apart on prepared cookie sheet.

Bake meatballs for 30-35 minutes, until hot and cooked through.

Serve hot.

These meatballs are oh so easy to make and they are absolutely delicious! If you’re feeling especially fancy, they can be served with a dipping sauce like BBQ sauce or Ranch dressing. But honestly? They are so good all on their own a dipping sauce isn’t really needed. The holiday season will be here before you know it. Save this recipe for all those upcoming holiday get togethers. These meatballs are always a fan favorite at any party!
