This Mac & Cheese stovetop skillet meal is a real kid pleaser! I guarantee you won’t have any problems getting your kids to eat this meal when you set it on the table. Not only will you get no complaints, but this meal comes together super quick, and it uses just a handful of basic ingredients you probably have in your pantry right now. That’s a win, all the way around, for us moms!
In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat until cooked through. Drain off excess fat.
Add ketchup, onion powder and water to the skillet.
Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring to combine the ingredients.
Add the macaroni noodles to the skillet once the sauce mixture has come to a boil.
Stir to combine.
Cover the pan and simmer over medium heat until macaroni is cooked al dente.
Stir occasionally, about 10-12 minutes.
Once pasta is cooked, stir in cubed American cheese.
Substitute a can of condensed cheddar cheese soup if you don’t have any processed American cheese on hand.
Stir until cheese melts and mixture is smooth and creamy and cheesy.
Top with an even layer of shredded cheddar cheese.
Cover the pan and turn off heat. Allow pan to sit for 5-8 minutes.
Serve once cheddar cheese has melted and top each serving with sliced green onions.
When I’m tired and completely out of creative ideas for dinner, and the sirens song from the drive thru is calling, this meal has come to the rescue many times! Adults love it just as much as the kids! Give it a try and let me know if it gets a thumbs up at your house like it does at mine.
