The Best, Easiest, Tastiest, Holiday Appetizer; Walnut Fig Baked Brie

The holidays are just around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about what to serve if you are hosting family and friends. Even if you are not hosting this year, this appetizer would be great to bring along to a get together, just ask the hostess if you can heat it up in the oven when you arrive. This is best served hot, with the melty, gooey cheese. It takes all of 30 seconds, ok, maybe 5 minutes, to put it together. Pop it in the oven and in 30 minutes you’ll have the creamiest, most decadent, cheesy hot appetizer! The fig butter adds a lovely sweetness to the creamy cheese and the the walnuts add a lovely texture and crunch to the tasty party going on in your mouth.

Serve with baguette bread slices or your favorite crackers.

I confess I’ve been dying to use my new Brie Baker for a while, but I needed some friends to help me eat an entire wheel of brie. Don’t get me wrong, if left alone to my own devices, I confess, I could probably polish off an entire wheel of cheese on my own. Yes, if you could see me now, you would see me hanging my head in shame. My waistline though, needs to shrink a bit, not keep expanding! I honestly can’t afford to buy more stretchy pants…LOL. Cue my besties, they came to my rescue and were more than willing to provide both tasting and eating assistance. Hey, I really needed a little help from my friends! Thank you ladies!!!

Don’t worry if you don’t own a Brie baker, any small oven safe dish will work. No lid? No worries, just cover the dish with foil as it bakes in the oven.

This is so stinking good!!!

This is one of easiest appetizers I have ever made, and it’s utterly delicious. When you are busy with all your holiday cooking and entertaining it’s nice to have this delicious, easy to make appetizer that takes almost no time to toss together.

Start by preheating your oven to 350°F.

Use a sharp knife, to slice off the top of the rind of the wheel of Brie cheese.

TIP: Placing the wheel of cheese in the freezer for 15-20 minutes prior to slicing it, makes it easier to cut off the top of the rind.

Place the wheel of cheese in an oven safe casserole dish and top the cheese with a layer of fig butter.

I used this fig butter from Trader Joe’s. It has a lower sugar content and more fruit than a jam or jelly but you could use any jam or jelly that you prefer. If you can get your hands on a fig spread, I highly recommend it!

Top with a sprinkle of chopped walnuts.

Cover dish and bake for 30 minutes or until cheese is melted, hot and bubbly.

Serve with sliced baguette bread or your favorite crackers.

I urge you to give this easy to make appetizer a try. It was a huge hit with my girlfriends. We had no trouble polishing off the entire wheel of cheese. Many baked brie recipes call for wrapping the cheese in puff pastry dough. Honestly, we didn’t miss the pastry dough at all. Spreading the cheese onto slices of French bread was perfect!

What are you serving for the holidays? Be sure to add this tasty, easy to make appetizer to your menu, your guests will devour it, guaranteed!
