Easy Cast Iron Cooking, Best Baked Buttery-Butter Biscuits

How could I not try a recipe with the description, “Biscuits swimming in butter.”

I did a double take at that. When I saw how incredibly easy they are to make, I knew I had to give them a try! A big shout out to Yoly at Allrecipes.com for this amazingly easy and utterly delicious biscuit recipe.

If you are looking for flakey biscuit layers that you get with a traditional biscuit, this recipe doesn’t produce that type of texture. Instead the texture is light, almost cake like, and the bottom and edges turn a deep golden brown with a crunchy, lightly crisp edge that is absolutely perfect. The contrast of textures is delectably addictive and buttery. Did I mention these biscuits are buttery? LOL! You will be licking your fingers.

Baking this in a cast iron pan produces a buttery, delectable crust along the bottom and edges and it’s what makes this easy to bake bread so delectable. If you don’t have a cast iron pan, you can use a metal, glass or ceramic baking dish but you may not get the same delectable crust along the bottom and edges. The crust is what MAKES this recipe!

I cook an awful lot, but I only just recently purchased my very first cast iron pan. I LOVE IT! I reach for it more and more and more often. It has great non-stick properties, heats evenly and retains heat better than some of my more expensive cookware. The more I use it, the more admiration I have for cast iron cookware.

If you decide to purchase a cast iron pan be sure to learn how to take care of it. Don’t let terms like seasoning it and not washing it scare you off. Trust me, it’s not difficult to care for cast iron. Spoiler alert…you can safely wash it with soap and water. You can read how easy it is to care for cast iron cookware HERE.

A super easy to make soft, fluffy biscuit with buttery crisp edges…you are going to eat way more than you should. That crunchy, lightly crisp, chewy edge is what makes this so darn good. I confess I had thirds!!!

Add a drizzle of honey for a divinely delicious sweet treat!

Begin by preheating oven to 450°F.

Gather together all the ingredients you need. No worries, it’s a short list.

Do you always seem to have 1/2 a carton of buttermilk the fridge that needs using like I do?

Cut a stick of butter into pats and place them in a 10 inch cast iron pan.

Place the pan in the oven for a few minutes until butter is completely melted.

Preheating the pan ensures the center cooks all the way through. Gummy center…not good!

While the butter is melting in the oven, stir together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt in a large bowl.

Add buttermilk and milk to the dry ingredients, and stir to combine.

The dough will be very sticky.

Remove cast iron pan from the oven and use a rubber spatula to spread the batter into the cast iron pan.

Be careful not to burn yourself, the pan will be hot!

Smooth batter out over the melted butter the best you can. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Bake for 20-25 minutes until biscuit dough turns a deep golden brown.

See how it puffs up as it bakes?

Remove from oven and cool in the pan for 10 minutes to allow biscuits to absorb all the butter in the bottom of the pan.

Cut into wedges to serve.

These are amazingly good and surprisingly easy to make too!!! Drizzle with a little honey for a divine sweet treat!!!
