If you are like me, you don’t have the luxury of spending hours upon hours to style your home with the change of each season. What if I told you that you can bring the warmth of autumn into your home using just snippets of time and by making just a few little changes to your decor?
Instead of spending an entire day changing up my decor I enjoy puttering around my house when I have a few free minutes during the week. A few minutes here and there changing out items in my vignettes slowly transitions my home from one season into the next.
If you are unfamiliar with how to create a vignette, you can learn how easy it is to create them for your home here.
Transitioning your decor in this manner is so much easier to do and much less jarring. It is a bit startling when one day you walk into your house and everything says summer, and then the very next day you walk into your house and everything is fall.
While there is nothing wrong with changing out your decor all at once to herald in a new season, let’s be honest, most of us don’t have the time to set aside an entire day to decorate our homes. We have to squeeze it in between getting the kids to school, work, cooking dinner, laundry, and after school activities. And who wants to waste a beautiful autumn day inside when the the last few weeks of beautiful weather beckon? Not me!
Let’s break it down into small manageable bites. Today I’m using my fireplace as an example of how easy it is to transform the look from late summer to fall.
Not sure what the first phase of fall is? You can learn all about the three phases of fall here and how to incorporate each phase into you decor.
Summer is lighter with fewer items; Summer is open, think easy, breezy. With Autumn, it’s time to bring in the coziness with more layers and deeper, richer tones.
So let’s break down the changes made to the fireplace to give you an idea of how small little changes can easily transform your look from summer to fall. With a fireplace it’s all about balance.
- Change the dark oak leaf sculpture on the top of the mantle to a silver champagne bucket filled with ready to bloom mums.
- Add a clear glass cylinder filled with coffee beans and a candle to bring balance to the mantle.
- Swap out the driftwood in the green ceramic crock with pinecones.
- Replace the sailboat and nautical items with a tall container of pussy willow branches for a bit of drama.
It only took a few small changes to switch up the look from late summer to early fall. Easy-peasy!
You can apply this same principle to any vignette in your home. If you keep your vignettes simple and follow the rule of three it’s so easy to transform them for the season.
Late Summer Early Fall
How to easily change up this coffee table vignette:
- Switch up the smooth basket weave tray to something more nubby and textural.
- Change out the beach grass with a more fall inspired greenery.
- Change up the starfish candle with a darker lantern.
- Swap out the coral for a small silver bowl filled with acorns.
Summer Fall
The rule of 3 creates a very pleasing vignette and keeps it manageable. I always like to use some sort of greenery or fresh flowers, a candle or lantern and a small seasonal item in the vignettes I create. It’s an easy formula that works for me.
Summer Fall
The rule of 3 works with any vignette you create. Keeping it simple allows you to create one in just a few minutes. Grab a tray, add a vase of fresh flowers or some greenery from your garden, add a candle or lantern and a small seasonal item. Done and done!
By keeping your vignettes simple they won’t become a lot of visual clutter in your home. They will become beautiful accents that bring the seasonal beauty from outside into your home.
Got 5 minutes? Then you’ve got more than enough time to create a beautiful seasonal vignette for your home.
