I kept running across this recipe online over and over again. Could a burger with just five simple ingredients really be as good as everyone raved about? I was skeptical but decided to give the recipe a try. Plus barbecued burgers for the Labor Day weekend seemed like the perfect meal to celebrate the official end to summer.
Ground beef, tomato juice, egg, salt and pepper; it seemed pretty simple and straight forward, right? I mean, I could hardly go wrong.
TIP: Pour extra tomato juice into an ice cube tray and freeze it. Once juice is frozen, pop cubes out and place them in a ziplock baggie and store in the freezer for use later on.
Start by preheating your barbecue grill to medium high heat.
While grill is heating up, combine ground beef, egg, tomato juice, salt and pepper in a large bowl. I used my hands to combine all the ingredients but you could use a wooden spoon to mix everything together.
Form beef mixture into 3 equal sized patties pressing an indentation into the center of each patty with your thumbs. This helps keep the patty from shrinking as much while it cooks on the grill.
Grill patties for 6 to 7 minutes per side, or until the beef is cooked to the doneness you prefer. We like our burgers cooked medium well.
To keep burgers moist and juicy, resist the urge to press down on the patties with the back of your spatula as they cook.
Top each beef patty with a slice of American cheese and a slice of Provolone cheese. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes, or until cheeses melt.
Place grilled beef patties on toasted hamburger buns.
Top each burger with your favorite condiments to serve.
We were pleasantly surprised at how juicy and flavorful these burgers were. I loved how super easy they are to mix together and get them on the grill. I was able to get this tasty meal on the table in about 20 minutes. To be perfectly honest, hands down, these burgers are much better than any burger you can pick up at a fast food joint.
These burgers are going to be making a regular appearance on our dinner table for sure!!! Be sure to give them a try, you will love them!
